Ano Pafos is the inland half of Pafos town and is reached by a wide, straight highway that climbs out of the beach area at Kato Pafos. Ano Pafos, also known as Ktima, is the main administrative area and here you will find all the public buildings - town hall, museums, library etc. The main roads are heavy with traffic but side streets are full of shops, including small designer outlets selling shoes and clothing. There are a few cafes and tavernas but not that many as few tourists venture away from the beach hotels that line the shore.
Most intercity buses arrive and depart from Ano Pafos and local buses, mainly number 11, will take you down the hill to the harbour. There is also a small municipal market here where just about everybody sells pirated DVDs.

Ano Pafos

There are relatively few cafes and tavernas in Ano Pafos compared anyway to Kato Pafos on the seafront below. Most of the better ones have views over the hillside and out to sea.

Ano Pafos

The municipal market in Ano Pafos is housed in a narrow glass topped arcade. Here is every sort of tourist shop offering everything from Mediterranean spices to leather goods. Many of them also do a good trade in pirated DVDs of movies yet to be released in the UK, though the quality is what you would expect.

Kato Pafos

Away from the busy main streets of Ano Pafos are small sidestreets usually worth investigating for small shops and cafes. The town shops are noted for fine quality shoes and smart designer clothes.

Kato Pafos

Traffic gets very heavy in the centre of Ano Pafos. Roads are not too difficult to cross however as drivers spend most of their time in queues or creeping along at walking pace.

Kato Pafos

Ano Pafos has most of the town's public buildings such as library seen here, as well as the town hall and several museums. Several of them, such as the Archeological Museum are out of the way on busy main roads.
