It looks like everyone in Polis has put chairs and tables out in the street and started a cafe. They are everywhere - on corners, in gardens, under arches. This town of tavernas, perched on a small hill, has a laid-back Greek feel and though there are signs of tourist tat here and there - a monster TV screen in one cafe - it makes a refreshing change from other dumbed down Cypriot resorts. The beach is about 1km from the village down a lane and along a dirt track through a delightful, shady wood. The beach is very long and narrow, mostly sand with some stone. A large taverna lies under the trees and there are toilets, showers and changing facilities. There is a campsite nearby beyong the woods. The beach is pleasant, backed by dunes, but exposed to northern winds and big rolling waves.

Almost every doorway in Polis has a few tables and chairs placed outside to catch some of the passing trade. It's tastefully done though and gives the village a real Greek island feel that's missing from most of the other Cyprus resorts

The more well established tavernas in Polis are built around attractive, enclosed courtyards. Some are built on the hillside giving good views and there are potted plants in profusion.

The narrow streets of Polis are made narrower by cafe tables and menus. Between the cafes are small shops selling better than average crafts and jewellery for the busy tourist trade.

The central square of Polis looking south is a forest of cafes. Tables spill out so far into the central area it can difficult to find a way through. Best stop and have a coffee.

Polis central square looking north seems even busier. Some bars are now offering wide screen TV showing of football matches to draw in the crowds.

The approach to Polis beach is along a dirt track through a pine wood. There is a large taverna to the left and showers to the right. Also off to the left is a large and clean toilet block.

Looking west along the long sandy beach. Off the back of the beach a newly built path leads to the local campsite.

Looking east along the shoreline at Polis beach. The sands seem to stretch on forever and some very quite spots can be found by those prepared to walk along the beach.

There is very pleasant and shady woodland behind the beach at Polis. Beneath the trees are a large cafe and a toilet block. In the middle of the woods the path to Polis town branches off for the campsite.

Most visitors congregate on the main approach near the beach taverna but the sands are never particularly crowded and the beach is so big a quiet spot is always only a short walk away.
